Looking at Steam’s January Hardware & Software survey in the PC video card usage chart might not actually give the impression that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 30 series cards are actually quite difficult to find at the moment. Another take-away from the chart is that gamers don’t seem to be too put off by the high price of the RTX 3090 card, although there’s always the likelihood that systems with this expensive card inside them are located in professional workspaces with employees sneaking in quick Steam gaming sessions when possible. It is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti card that has the highest percentage share change out of the new Ampere cards, claiming +0.27% for January and lying in fourth place in the chart behind some GeForce 10 series and GeForce 16 series graphics processors. While the RTX 3090 snags +0.23% and the RTX 3080 cements its position by claiming another +0.18% share, there is no sight of the GeForce RTX 3070 in the Steam table. It’s possible there just has not been enough stock of the latter GPU, which is widely sold out, to make an impression yet.

As for overall graphics card share, there’s no surprise that Nvidia is dominant here, with both Intel and AMD far behind. But what is quite surprising is just how much Team Green has monopolised the top 20 cards by usage, with 18 representatives taking up positions. Only the AMD Radeon RX 580 in 10th and the RX 570 in 16th can spoil the party a little. Out of the current Ampere cards, it is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 that has the largest overall share at this point, appearing in 0.66% of systems in the survey.
